“Living apart together”-Reaktionen
Die Werbung für ein neues Produkt seines Arbeitgebers hat mir Oliver Hartwich bereits abgenommen. Besondere Erwähnung verdienen aber drei Reaktionen auf diese Studie über die politische und religiöse Einstellung junger Muslime in Großbritannien, die heute in der “Daily Mail” zu finden sind. Die Oberhausabgeordnete Baroness Uddin lässt verlauten:
But now, when young people go through difficulties in terms of job opportunities and education, they do make their opinions known.
Einmal wieder der übliche “blame the West” Sermon, der durch die Befunde der Studie gerade widerlegt wird:
Despite widespread concerns about Islamophobia, 84% of Muslims believe they have been treated fairly in this society.
Dagegen betont der Labour Abgeordnete Shahid Malik:
For years, I have argued that the British National Party is a white phenomenon which it is up to the white community to address. Well, extremism exists in the name of Islam and that’s something the Muslim community has to take leadership on.
It’s my view that the mainstream, umbrella Muslim organisations have not risen to the challenge and don’t accept the depth of the problem that’s facing them.
Und sein Parteifreund und Kollege Khalid Mahmood äußert sich ganz ähnlich:
Our young people have been allowed to fall into the hands of fringe organisations who are getting at them at universities, schools, colleges and mosques. They are being manipulated.
It’s difficult for the Government to prescribe a way forward for the Muslim community. I don’t think it can do that.
It’s up to the mainstream, national Muslim organisations, who frankly have failed.
Als kleiner Lichtblick bleibt, dass in einem der Wahlkreise mit dem höchsten muslimischen Bevölkerungsanteil jemand gewählt wird, der sich wesentlich rationaler äußert als ein ernannter Repräsentant der Muslime.

Selbt der GUARDIAN berichtet, aber nur ganz kurz. Immerhin wird das Fazit der Autorin Munira Mirza zitiert, quasi ein Verdikt über Ideologie und Politik der Regierung Blair:
