From Istanbul with love
Wenn eine Globalisierungskritikerin wie Naomi Klein ihr Herz für die Palästinenser entdeckt, dann offenbar vor allem deshalb, um Israel eins auszuwischen. In Istanbul, wo Frau Klein sich über Israels Sicheheritspolitik auslassen durfte, wird man es gern gehört haben. Hürriyet Daily berichtet:
Recalling the international movement to isolate and boycott South Africa successfully ended the country’s Apartheid regime, she said a similar movement called “boycott, disinvest, sanctions” could be used to influence Israel. The way Israel and its allies are reacting is proof that the movement has potential, said Klein, adding that Israel’s crack down on non-violent human rights activists has been growing.
Klein said the movement does not advocate any specific solution to the Palestinian issue, it is not affiliated with a political party or ideology that accepts or denies the existence of Israel, but simply demands that Israel complies with international law.
Denn warum sonst sollte sie die Einhaltung völkerrechtlicher Standards nur von der israelischen Seite fordern und nicht ebensosehr von der Hamas-Regierung im Gazastreifen? Es ist diese Art von Heuchelei im Umgang mit Israel, auf die Asher Susser vom Moshe Dayan Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (Tel Aviv) bei aller potentiellen Kritikwürdigkeit der israelischen Blockade des Gazastreifens hinweist, wie er am Beispiel der Reaktion Südafrikas auf die jüngsten Ereignisse um die Gaza-Flotille zeigt:
The recall of South Africa’s ambassador to Israel is typical of this double standard. As more information becomes available on the flotilla it is pretty obvious to any fair minded person that the Turks, and certainly the men on the ship who attacked the Israeli commandos, bear no small measure of responsibility for the tragic outcome. But South Africa could not wait to be bothered by all the facts and has already made its judgement. South Africa took no similar action after the genocide in Darfur, the repeated killing of tens of protesters and the hangings of dissidents in Iran, the horrendous human rights abuses in Zimbabwe and many other instances infinitely worse than the flotilla incident.
Mit der von ihr so angeprangerten Heuchelei kennt Frau Klein sich übrigens aus. Die Entdeckerin der Schock-Doktrin – einer angeblichen Strategie des Westens, marktliberale Verhältnisse im Gefolge von Kriegen und Naturkatastrophen zu erzwingen – hatte schon vor einiger Zeit verraten, dass sie Krisen auch als Gelegenheit zu sehen weiss, wenn es nur darum geht, ihre eigene Agenda in die Tat umzusetzen. Ihr Kritiker Johan Norberg kam seinerzeit zu dem Schluss: “Now it´s official: Naomi Klein has spent five years writing a book that accuses free-market liberals of thinking the way she does.”
